Big Blue

The new school year brings some exciting opportunities for the Florence High School Band program. The band continues to grow each year both in size and in talent. The 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th grade band classes are some of the largest on record. As these new students progress through the band program, we will continue to see them advance musically and academically.
The summer band camp included all the elements associated with July in North Alabama: bright sun, hot temperatures, and high humidity. Everyone survived and we were able to build the new marching show for the fall season which includes Blues music. The marching show is under the field direction of drum major, Carliegh Eaton. The first home game performance is set for Friday night, September 9, with the FHS home opener. Make plans to be at every game this year so you can enjoy an evening of exciting sports action and catch the “BIG BLUE BAND” live at halftime.
The FHS band program is under leadership of John Bradley, Director of Bands, and Assistant Directors Russ Belote and Johnna Stafford. These three instructors present a dynamic learning environment that encourages students to work hard and improve their music and performance skills every day. The program is very fortunate to have such skilled leaders at the helm.
The Florence High School “BIG BLUE BAND” Booster program plays an integral part in promoting the band each year. Fundraisers during the year help provide the necessary revenue required to support such a large program. Events include concession stand operations at all FHS and University of North Alabama home football games along with fruit and candle sales in the fall, and donations and sponsorships from individuals and businesses throughout the Shoals area.
